In short, Silvia has been the biggest influence in my teaching career. The coaching she provided me was something every educator should be so lucky to have. She is able to articulate why all of our instincts as educators are correct, and is what teaching should and needs to be right now. She is tired of waiting for learning to catch up to society, and leads the charge of a better way to teach students. She pushed me to be better by opening my eyes to a world of teaching I didn’t know existed. It is my current, and all future students that will reap these rewards and be better prepared for the world because of the professional guidance she provided. She made an effort to connect with me throughout the process, and even though our “official” coaching was over almost a year ago we are still in contact and I love that I have a mentor to ask or ideate with in my growing professional learning network that she helped me create. I will forever be in debt to Silvia for all of the wisdom she has passed on and reframing my outlook on teaching. We are pioneers and researchers, venturing into uncharted waters without a map. Silvia provides the compass to to help us navigate a better way. She illustrates the importance of documenting learning, connecting globally, and not settling for what is comfortable because “it is how we learned”. Be prepared to get comfortable being uncomfortable and to improve your skills.

Working with Silvia Tolisano in a yearlong coaching opportunity had a deep impact on my mindset as a learner and educator.  Her coaching changed the way I take on learning challenges and goal set for myself.  She helped ignite an interest in uncovering new NOW literacies, endless tools and got me unstuck in areas I felt hesitant, like with blogging.  Silvia encouraged us to make global connections which is now a staple of how I engage daily Professional Development, not only within my own school, but through a global community of educators or professionals.

As a school administrator I was then able to share this passion for NOW Literacies and the importance of documenting learning with the whole faculty.  Our students have a new sense of ownership over their work, a commitment to being digital ambassadors and are process driven.

Silvia is a brilliant force who helps you independently propel yourself forward with a renewed commitment to lifelong learning.

My time with Silvia as a member of her blended coaching cohort, far exceeded my expectations in terms of the impact it had on my thinking, teaching and coaching role within my own school.

Our work began with an in-person workshop, and I still remember one of the first quotes that Silvia shared with us by Alvin Toffler: “The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read or write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn.” This quote continues to guide me, and through my work with Silvia, I’ve recognized that the skills I need to impart on my students, and the methods I use to do this, are forever changing and evolving. It is my willingness to be flexible and reflective, to change and evolve with them, that will make me an excellent educator.

Whether it was in person or over video chat, Silvia was always well-prepared for our meetings, discussing interesting, engaging and relevant topics and teaching us about tools that could be used Now! My colleagues and I left each session invigorated and energized to do a little more a little better than we did before.

Silvia helped me to find my voice as an educator through blogging. She encouraged me to expand my professional learning network by connecting me with other educators and thinkers around the world. She challenged my thinking and pushed me to challenge myself. And the greatest testament to her is that I continue to do all these things a year after our work together ended.

La capacitación la definiría como un “open mind”. No es solamente conocer recursos digitales o redes. La capacitación y el coaching de Silvia fue para mí ir mucho más allá de los recursos tecnológicos y del uso de dispositivos.  Los mismos fueron puestos al servicio del aprendizaje y de compartir y ampliar el conocimiento.  Sentía que me iba  integrando a una red global en la que era tanto trasmisora de conocimientos y experiencias como aprendiz.  El ser “lifelong lerner” se transformó en un ejercicio y en una realidad constante.

El propio blog se va transformando en un portfolio de cada uno.

El coaching con Silvia me brindó la posibilidad de documentar y vivenciar mis aprendizajes para seguir aprendiendo. En febrero de 2019 me confirmaron que iba a participar de la capacitación a cargo de Silvia Tolisano. Me alegré mucho, porque el año anterior había escuchado a mis colegas que estaban muy entusiasmadas con el trabajo.

La primera frase que me dejó pensando, fue que los alumnos que tenemos ahora van a ser ciudadanos del siglo XXII. Y esto es algo que pocas veces tenemos en cuenta. Los desafíos y necesidades que tienen estos chicos, no podemos imaginarlos, porque se van a tener que enfrentar a situaciones que aún no existen. Tecnologías que se están desarrollando y que van a moldear sus vidas, formas de relacionarse diferentes a las actuales y por, sobre todo, van a tener que realizar trabajos que aún no se inventaron. ¿Cómo acompañarlos en este proceso? ¿Qué herramientas podemos darles para enfrentar estos desafíos? ¿Cómo formar redes entre docentes para poder acompañarlos en esta aventura?

Durante este año trabajamos sobre estos temas. A su vez, profundicé en un tema que me apasiona, Gamification. Con ayuda de Silvia fui ampliando mi idea inicial sobre el tema.

Terminé el año creando mi página web, para dejar mi huella digital y comenzar a formar redes con colegas.

El provenir siempre es un misterio, pero sé que no voy a poder a volver a enseñar en la forma que venía haciendo antes, y eso me produce una enorme satisfacción.

Del coaching de Silvia Tolisano puedo referirme como altamente positivo y además ágil y divertido:

-De ella entendí cómo utilizar la conectividad cotidianamente como una herramienta más (como pizarrón, tiza y dispositivo) para mi uso personal y en el aula.
